Study 001: Reciprocity

STUDY 001: RECIPROCITY

May I be found as I am
still learning the language
of receiving
which is not one spoken
which is one heard
which convinces the hand to open
in its mother tongue
which is to hold it
with a silence
that says
I know you.

Notes-

Reciprocity is the steward tending to the balance between giving and receiving. When pivoted to self, reciprocity serves as the vessel for trust and respect.

Often, we move through the world disconnected from our body, because being a human with needs, wants, intuition, pain, and perspective, is inherently unproductive. In a society that celebrates productivity, measurable accomplishments and the perpetual momentum to reach further, it often comes at a self deficit to give, unrequitedly. The hand is always reached outwards. This overextension can dissolve the language between us and our bodies, leading to self-abandonment and distrust in the places we have neglected. Shutting off the pain, pushing through the exhaustion, silencing the niggling signs that eventually build into symptoms calling to us, while we push onwards, resenting the need to slow down.

Reciprocity asks us, how can we turn the hand inwards? How can we show up for ourselves in return for all that we ask of ourselves? How can we continue to create, offer, accomplish from a place of true embodiment? It is an invitation to nurture the spaces in between and revere the language of your body. It is the practice of presence and the willingness to give and receive from and for ourselves. What is given returns. What is tended grows, often ripening in the process.
